This story just goes to highlight how silly a lot of the ideas of Pakistan's cricketing elite are.
While fine and talented opening batsmen such as Salman Butt, Yasir Hameed and Taufeeq Umar are being treated like a pair of dice, being dropped and picked at whim, the powers that be are considering turning middle order batsmen like Shoaib Malik and Bazid Khan into openers. Anyone who has seen any of the first three play knows that not only are they talented and gritty batsmen, but in the case of Salman and Yasir batsmen who are capable of hitting some gorgeous shots against the best opposition. Who can forget Salman's gorgeous century against Australia in Sydney?
Is it the fact that Shoaib Malik, a fine cricketer no doubt, is almost a selector's favourite and is being groomed into Pakistan's next golden child? Or is it the fact that Bazid Khan is Majid Khan's nephew? Makes one really, really wonder.
