At 253-3, with Trescothick still there at 135, England has a definitive stranglehold on Pakistan in the test match. Through careful focus, England was able to do what Pakistan was not able to do: Apply themselves diligently, and turn good starts into good innings. Trescothick settled down with Bell, and made an excellent partnership of 180. Furthermore, Pakistan's bowling lacked spirit and bite all day, with perhaps only a few deliveries actually packing a punch or pretending to threaten the batsmen. Shoaib Akhtar started slow, but was able to bowl with some consistency towards the latter part of the innings, while Shabbir Ahmed was ineffectual all day.
Pakistan has to change their strategy, otherwise this test is heading for trouble for them.
