Interestingly poised

Well, Pakistan has put in a solid effort. England started the day at 253-3, but due to some inspired and focused bowling by Shabbir Ahmed, and some mistakes by the English batsmen, Pakistan was able to dismiss them for 418, which must have been far below their plans at the beginning of the day. With 4-54, Shabbir is really pushing towards usurping Sami's position, who disappointed again with 1 for 76, through reasonably uninspired bowling.

Pakistan played extraordinarily well, under pressure, to start off the second innings. The opening stand of 31 was disappointing, but Salman Butt impressed once again, and is currently not out at 53. If anyone drops Salman Butt after impressive performances in Australia and now here, I swear, they'll need a spanking. Salman Butt will be the next great Pakistani batsman. Younis Khan scored a workman 48, but could have done more.

Pakistan will be under pressure on the fourth day to bat out the day, and for that there will be a great deal of pressure on Salman, Inzamam and specially Hasan Raza after the disappointing first inning performance.
