Good start for India, not so good for Gul

India started off the tour of Pakistan luxuriously. At 298-4, with all four dismissed batsmen scoring and playing well, India is serving notice to Pakistan supporters.

Even the out of form Gambhir played well to score 53, and Wasim Jaffer scored a well played 58. This will make India's job difficult in picking someone to partner Sehwag in the first test match.

Umar Gul, Mohammad Irshad and Yasir Arafat didn't really impress anyone with sub-par performances on admittedly a pretty tame wicket. Pakistan will need someone to replace Razzaq who will most likely be out, and Sami who despite Imran's help, isn't necessarily going to turn into a strike bowler before the first test. I really think Sami needs a wake up call by being left out of the first test. Even his first-class average is now over 30, at 32.16.
