Gul not to play in the first test?

Is Gul not to play in the first test? Currently being reported in Indian papers, is a report that Pakistan will sit Umar Gul, and play with four pacers: Shoaib, Naved, Sami and Asif. While the relative merits of Asif and Gul could be discussed, as they are both young and trying to break into the Pakistani squad, the unending support for Sami is really beginning to appear strange.

Sami, after some coaching tips from Imran Khan, is understandably feeling good about himself. Upon questioning he is defending his test average of over 40 with the statement that he has mostly bowled on batting wickets. Well, in the current era, Zaheer Khan has been dropped, with an average of the 30s from being a premiere strike bowler for India. In the past, Saleem Jaffar and Aaqib Javed were in and out of the squad because of their averages in the 30s.

Sami has not made a case to be in the Test squad for atleast the last year. To leave him in, and Umar Gul out, despite his strong performances, is an error.
