Session 1 to Pakistan, Malik 50

Pakistan appears to have taken all the honours from the first session. After winning the toss, Inzamam chose to bat, and apart from an unlucky loss of Salman Butt, Pakistan looked only minimally troubled from the Indian bowling to reach 110-1.

While big things were expected from Salman Butt, a mix-up with Shoaib Malik lead to his dismissal off a great play by Yuvraj Singh. All the praise to Yuvraj, and about 90% of the blame to Shoaib Malik. After that initial setback, Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik settled in for some strong play. With some discipline, only the most pliable of balls were dispatched, and singles were taken only when obviously available. Harbhajan seemed to be the only bowler to trouble both the batsmen with some surprising spin from a placid appearing wicket.

Pakistan now must be hoping for a score in excess of 350 to fully utilize the gains of the opening session.
