Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf once again demonstrated their superior skill and talent today. After being unable to contain England, who went on to score 515, the Pakistani batsmen were under a great deal of pressure to perform. Taufeeq Umar fell at 7 to a weak shot, and Salman Butt was run out at 20 with some confusion between Younis and him. But it appeared that the entire tempo of the Pakistani effort changed when Mohammad Yousuf walked out, and the two Ys were together again.
Equal parts aggressive and watchful, they dealt with Panesar's tight and aggressive work, as well as they dealt with the loose stuff offered up by the pacers. An exquisite, self-assured stand of 166 later, Yousuf was at 91 and Younis at 64. Now, for any chance of success in this test, Pakistan has to bat out the third day completely. Lets see if they are up to the challenge.
