So, here's the denial. Albeit a few days late, Inzamam prior to leaving for South Africa, did his best to rubbish the rumours that Shoaib's being left off the team had anything to do with a rift between the two.
This is expected really, however the sequence of events, Shoaib's displeasure, and the absence of Woolmer all point towards a certain high-handedness and stubbornness from Inzamam. There really can't be any significant question, specially with a warm-up match coming up in South Africa, about Shoaib's ability to regain full fitness before the start of the test series. I just cannot personally discount all of the rumours, and say that Inzamam had nothing to do with this. He plays too strong a role in the side and his personality is too over bearing on the side and its character for there not to have been an Inzamam role.
