All through day 3, specially after tea, and then the morning of day 4, all the commentators were questioning the decision of Pakistan to continue to bat. On the morning of day 4, Rameez Raja, Dean Jones, Michael Holding and Arun Lal all continued to criticize the Pakistani team for having a negative mentality, and even perhaps Abdul Razzaq's selfishness for continuing to bat until he had reached a 100.
Younis Khan clarified the issue and spoke of the great deal of thought that went into the process:
'I discussed it with Inzamam overnight. There was some talk about giving them a full 180 overs to bat. But then we thought with their batting and people like Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and the rest, we should set a target of over 600 runs. Until yesterday the wicket looked a bit casual so we thought about the time needed. But today our bowlers bowled better.'
At this point, I guess the fact that Pakistan won the match by a massive margin really makes all of this moot!
