Waqar being paid 100,000 contract by the PCB

Waqar Younis has been awarded a contract of 100,000 by the PCB. While that may seem a large amount by Pakistani standards, lets remember that international cricket earned the PCB probably around $30 million USD over the past year. Even if one contends that a third of this money should be spent on local development, that still leaves around $20 million USD for the team itself. Currently the PCB is handing out probaly around half a million USD a year in central contracts and probably another matching amount in match fees and another amount over that for sponsorship fees to players. That takes the total amount paid out for player disbursements to around 1.5 million USD.

That leaves the PCB with about 18.5 million USD for their international team. Other sports that generate similar amounts, like professional sports in North America, will employ 4 to 5 professional coaches, seperate physiotherapists, exercise consultants, dietitians etc.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, in the relatively smaller professional sport of Ice Hockey in North Amerca, employ the following people in their management department:

1. General Manager
2. Director of Player Personnel
3. Head Coach
4. 2 Assistant Coaches
5. Player Development Coach
6. Strength & Conditioning Coach
7. Goaltending coach
8. Equipment Manager, with 2 Assistents
9. 2 Athletic Therapists
10. A team physician

This entire lineup earns upwards of 10 million USD a year.
If the PCB is looking towards maintaining a professional approach in this day and age, they would be well served by having a number of coaches who are specialists in what they provide, and one should not quibble about their salaries. There can be no price on succss, especially when the PCB is making money hand over fist.
