Afridi's back?!

Well, well, well. Looks like whether some people like it or not, Boom Boom Afridi is coming back! It was in this space in November that I said it was ok for Shahid to be dropped from the West Indies series, but it was critical that be brought back. Shahid Afridi is the one and only true match winner in the Pakistani squad, save Inzamam and maybe Shoaib Akhtar. He alone has the ability to change the entire tone and tenor of a match, with bat, ball or in the field. When on song, who is there in international cricket who has that ability? A very select few.

For all those who want Shahid to perform in the world of first class cricket, before he steps back into international cricket, probably don't realize that its not like Shahid Afridi has ever been a domestic cricket or first class cricket powerhouse. His best performances have always been saved for the largest stages, which raise their standard, which is what has made him the recognizable character that he is. He needs to be back in the saddle. He needs to back in the squad. And I guarantee you this: At some point in the World Cup, Shahid Afridi will sieze a game in his massive hands, and win it for Pakistan. If he doesn't, well, I'll have to think of something!
